Google has added some huge features to its official Chrome OS camera app, according to a new Google+ post Tuesday afternoon by developer and Google guru/fanboy Fran§ois Beaufort. The boatload of new features appears to very exciting, which is good news for all Chrome OS users out there.
According to Beaufort, the camera app’s new features include video recording, support for syncing photos across all your Chrome devices, and being able to upload the content you have captured to both YouTube and Google+.
So, just what does this new camera app for Chrome OS all mean for Android going forward? That is sort of unclear right now, but it will surely mean we will see a more integrated and unified system across all of Google’s products. It is highly likely that images you take and videos you produce on your Chrome OS laptop will at some point be available on your Android smartphone or tablet. I can see them syncing in a seamless fashion.
It also shows Google is positioning Chrome OS and laptops to be more consumer friendly. The lack of a good, high quality camera app has been the operating system’s Achilles heal up until now in my opinion. Almost all laptops and computers out there currently have good camera apps. This is just another step in the right direction for Google and the Chrome operating system.
Overall, it will be interesting to see where the new Chrome OS camera app and Google’s rumored upcoming Android camera app revamp go in this next year and beyond. Will we see the two apps merge? Will we see features come together? It is really too early to tell just yet. Hopefully we will know more soon though as I know we have some big Chrome OS fans out there who read this site.
For impatient Chrome OS owners who don’t want to wait for the automatic app update on their device, it is available now. You can snag it over on the Chrome OS app store today. Download it here friends!
