It’s no secret that Oppo is now a big name when it comes to Android smartphones, after all their Find 5 flagship was very well received indeed last year and this year’s N1 certainly turned more than a few heads. No thanks to it’s 13-megapixel camera that pulls a double-shift as your front-facing camera and your rear-facing shooter, needless to say the N1 will easily take the best selfies that you ever took. Oppo’s N1 is also about to go on sale in the US and Europe. Problem is, not everyone can afford and Oppo N1 or even a Find 5, especially in Oppo’s home market of China. The company realizes this and it’s why they released the R819 earlier this year to create a quality device on a budget.
Now, it appears they’re ready to expand their portfolio by one more device, with the Oppo R1 being teased on China’s largest social network, Sina Weibo. Not much is known about the device but, The Next Web have gleamed a few key points about the device. For one thing, the Oppo R1 is said to be launching with a 1.2 Ghz Quad-Core CPU – which might be the same MediaTek MT6589 used in the R819 – and for another it’s sporting 8 and 5-megapixel rear-facing and front-facing cameras, respectively. Pretty run-of-the-mill stuff for a mid-range Android device in 2013 but, there’s word that the Oppo R1 will be able to take much better photos in low-light.
That’s a promise that we’ve heard oh, so many times before but, as the N1 shows it’s clear that Oppo is gearing their focus towards great photography on their smartphones. While there’s only so much that can be done with mid-range hardware, especially when you’re trying to reach a specific price-point, we’re pretty sure that Oppo could quite easily create a device that takes decent pictures in low-light. After all, the company has gotten pretty cosy with CyanogenMod Inc. so, perhaps they could help out with their camera software?
While the Oppo R1 has yet to officially launch, we doubt that Oppo will want to wait too much longer so, expect some more info soon.
