Plex Launches New Website, Now Allows You To Cast Directly from the Site

Plex is by far my favorite app on Chromecast. And they just keep making it better. A few weeks ago, Plex launched alongside about 10 other apps for the Chromecast. Plex allows you to stream local content onto the big screen using your Chromecast. Up until now, you could only cast stuff from Plex to your TV from the app, on your Android phone or tablet. However, on Christmas Eve, Plex decided to launch their brand new website. In fact, they have a completely new domain and everything. You can now find them at Plex.tv.

One of the more noticeable features of the new website is that it loads a whole lot faster than the old version. The sidebar lists out the various servers you have been granted access to by your friends and family and lists the titles of what is shared. Once you are inside the website, it’ll feel very familiar if you have a Google TV. All the menu options are hidden just off the screen. You’ll also find a slick little “cast” button on the top right.

It’s great to see a brand new site from Plex. Those folks have been hard at work. Within the past month we’ve seen the Plex and PlexPass apps updated to support Chromecast. As well as the Plex Media Server app updated to fix some bugs and such. Now we’ve got a Chromecast button on the website. What’s there not to love about Plex and Chromecast? It’s like a match made in heaven.

Hopefully we’ll see more apps make their way to Chromecast in 2014, which Google does have big plans for next year. But in the meantime, you can keep watching your favorite Christmas movies on Chromecast with Plex, and many of the other apps available. Merry Christmas everyone! How many of you use Plex and Chromecast together? Let us know in the comments below.
