We’ve heard plenty of rumors claiming Samsung will soon begin focusing on the budget device market, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the company will be leaving the high-end sector behind. Indeed, we may have evidence of a brand new Galaxy Tab, so those of you who are fans of Samsung’s high-end products can breathe easy. Sadly, there isn’t much to go on at this point – merely an Indian import listing from Zauba – so we can’t say for sure what kind of hardware is working under the hood of this tablet, or even if it’s part of the Galaxy Tab line up.
However, there are a few key details to be found. The Zauba listing clearly says that Samsung Tablet SM-T331 was imported to India for research and development purchases. It shows a per-unit price of 33,884 Indian Rupees, which translates to about $548 US. That certainly isn’t chump change, and it’s much more than consumers would expect to pay on a low-end or even mid-range tablet. So, it looks like we might have a Galaxy Tab 3 successor on our hands.
That model number is also important. As The Droid Guy points out, the 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3 had three different model numbers: SM-T310, SM-T311, and SM-T315. With that in mind, it seems likely that the SM-T331 could be the next device in the Galaxy Tab line. TDG also suggests that the $550 price tag could mean we’re in for a Super AMOLED screen, and we’re tempted to agree – for that price, consumers are definitely going to expect an impressive display, and rolling with Super AMOLED tech is one way to give it to them.
Unfortunately, that’s all we know at the moment, and admittedly, most of this is nothing more than speculation. We can connect the model number dots all we want, but at the end of the day, the only solid pieces of evidence we have are the per-unit price and the fact that the Zauba listing specifically names Samsung as the manufacturer. That said, it seems like a no-brainer that Samsung would continue the high-end Galaxy Tab line, so all we need now is an announcement and we’re good to go. Hopefully that comes sooner rather than later, so stay tuned.
