Back in September, when Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear, Qualcomm also announced their very own smartwatch, the Toq. It’s kind of a weird name, in fact I don’t even know how to pronounce it even why it’s the name of a smartwatch. However the Toq does do more than the Galaxy Gear does, at least at launch it did. The Galaxy Gear has received a few updates since launch to bring more functionality to it. The Qualcomm Toq works with Android 4.0.3 and up, but it will work better with anything that has Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (aka BLE) on the device. It also requires the free Qualcomm Toq app that’s available in the Play Store. So it obviously doesn’t support iOS, so you can rub this in their face.
One of the big things that the Qualcomm Toq has over the Galaxy Gear is battery life. While the Galaxy Gear was said (by Samsung) to last only a day, while I was reviewing it I was able to get closer to two full days of use out of it. However the Qualcomm Toq is seeing 4 days or more of battery usage before needing to be recharged. That’s quite a bit better, since you already have to charge your phone every night, and possibly a tablet. You don’t want to charge another device too.
The Qualcomm Toq is now available on Amazon, and does use Amazon Prime. So if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can get the Qualcomm Toq with free 2-day shipping. Which is one of my favorite things about Amazon, and buying from them. The Qualcomm Toq also has wireless charging, which is great to see and surprisingly, I wonder why its not on other smartwatches out there.
If you pick up the Qualcomm Toq, be sure to let us know in the comments below how you are liking it.
