Rumors have started to stir up and surface again about the highly speculative “Amazon” smartphone, this time though they circle around the idea that the phone will appear and be unveiled sometime early in 2014. So there we have it, the Amazon smartphone is said to have an early 2014 unveiling along with a release date around the same time according to sources of Digitimes. Sources have also stated that the Taiwanese electronics company Primax Electronics has received orders from Amazon for Compact Camera Modules better known as CCM’s, which are to be used in the smartphone launched by Amazon.
The phone is rumored to feature what is called a floating touch technology, that lets the user interact with the device without touching it just by hovering their finger above the display. Other phones use similar features like Samsungs Galaxy S 4, and Sony’s Xperia Sola. Such a feature is very useful for those times where your fingers might be just a tad too greasy and you don’t wish to gunk up your display.
It’s also reported that Primax Electronics will be providing Amazon with more than 50% of the CCM’s that are said to be used in the upcoming rumored device. Among these rumors and possible hardware and feature specs, the Amazon smartphone is rumored to possibly have a 4.7 inch display, which is larger than the 4.3 inch display that was thought to be the decided size for the phone. Other rumors include a possible price point(which falls somewhere between $150 and $170 to purchase), and possible manufacturers of the hardware which could be Texas Instruments or Qualcomm. The device is also said to be a possible Android Prime subscriber exclusive, and could potentially be Manufactured by HTC. If this is the case, and HTC does end up manufacturing a smartphone for Amazon alongside their own upcoming HTC M8, it could spell good news for them as they have been struggling to hit quarterly profit estimates and have been fighting to gain back some ground in the smartphone market. CES is just around the corner and perhaps once the smoke has lifted after one of the largest consumer electronics shows, we just might know a little more about this mystical Amazon device.
