This is pretty much confirmed now, but Samsung Exynos has tweeted out that they are announcing their next Exynos processor at CES in Las Vegas during their January 7th press conference. Their tweet basically said “#CES2014 is right around the corner. Are you ready to #UnlockExynos?”. Now we’ve heard rumors that this next version of their Exynos processor, the Exynos 6, would be 64-bit. Other than that we haven’t heard much rumors about their next processor. I’m not sure if it’ll be another “octa-core” or just a plain old quad-core. From my experiences with devices using the Exynos 5 Octa, they seem to not be as responsive as their devices with the Snapdragon 800. The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition is a prime example of that.
I don’t expect Samsung to announce much else in terms of mobile products at CES. We may see more flexible and curved display stuff alongside the Exynos 6. But other than that, I think they will save their new phones and tablets for an Unpacked event. Last year at CES, they actually announced a few new cameras, as well as the Galaxy Camera and Galaxy Note 10.1 heading to Verizon. Which neither of those were really new devices.
Anyone have any predictions about what Samsung is going to show off during their press conference alongside a new Exynos chip? Maybe we’ll see a 2-2.5GHz processor this time? Personally, I’m hoping they can get LTE on the chip at launch. So that when the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 come out this year, there isn’t an Exynos and a Snapdragon variant. Although, I do know that developers really don’t like developing for Exynos powered devices, so maybe it’s a good thing we see Snapdragon variants of Samsung devices too. What do you guys think?
