Samsung is big on innovation. They make a conscious and dedicated effort to expand their role in the technological world with products that both captivate, and perform functionally. We first saw Samsung’s plans for wearable tech with the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch, which was more of a showstopper during its infancy phase of the first month or two of its release than it is now. It’s a little limited, but it was also Samsung’s first device in this area and with that in mind it’s not a bad device.
It doesn’t stop with the Galaxy Gear though as Samsung says they have plans to enter into fitness and fashion with more wearable tech that caters to those markets. Although Samsung doesn’t yet have a piece of fitness tech, the Galaxy Gear does have a pedometer. You’ll also find some Samsung fitness apps within their latest smartphones as well. Samsung wants to take features like this to the next level though. Future plans for Samsung involve a patent they filed for a wearable monitor, which would measure heart rate, blood pressure, and calories burned among other functions of the body. Some of these functions are similar to what we see in existing wearable technology like the Fitbit, but it would be a first for Samsung.
Among their ambitions to enter into all forms of wearable tech, Samsung has plans for the fashion world with a stretchable AMOLED display. This seems all a bit too futuristic for reality, but Samsung believes they can achieve these goals before too long, and grab a foothold in Fashion.
Mobile World Congress and CES 2014 are not too far away, and this is the most likely place we would see some of the stuff Samsung has planned for the future. Samsung’s timeline shown above gives us a peek at what to expect from the large electronics company. Fitness and Healthcare are listed as what they have planned for 2015, while Fashion is still a ways off for a 2018 timeframe. Even though wearable AMOLEDS that stretch are still almost half a decade away, its amazing to think how far technology has come in the last couple years.
