While Kit Kat 4.4 isn’t the largest update version of the Android OS that we’ve seen, it did still implement some cool new features. One of the more useful ones we’ve come across here at Android Headlines since Kit Kat’s release alongside the Nexus 5, is the Google Search integrated dialer. Aside from having a refreshed design to better match the overall theme of Kit Kats UI, it has Google Search built in so you can search for nearby places. Instead of going to maps or search itself to find a place of business and click on a Phone Number link, you can now do it right from the dialer which cuts out just a little bit of time and effort that you need to put forth to find what you need. This new dialer also features web based caller-ID, so when unknown numbers come in the web does a search for the number details to tell you who is calling. These are extremely handy features if you like to stay in the know about who’s ringing you, or if you don’t happen to know the number to your favorite takeout place, no matter how many times you write the number down on your hand.Now I know what you’re thinking, and that’s probably “how can I get my hands on this app?” The answer to that question is we’ll provide you with the .apk and flashable zip files, but there’s a small catch. You have to be running some version of kit kat 4.4. While this feature wasn’t meant to be exclusive to the Nexus 5 like the Google Experience launcher(as they have made it available on all Nexus and Google Play Edition phones that have received the OTA Kit Kat update), you still have to have Android 4.4 running on your device for this to work. It can be a stock image of the OS version, or it can be a custom ROM, just as long as it’s Android 4.4+. This may change to be available to all phones at some point, but there’s no mention from Google of this happening and only time will tell if they decide to put it out there for all users.If your device meets the requirements needed to run this app, you can get started by downloading and installing either the .apk file or the flashable zip for those of you that like to install things through recovery. If you’re installing the .apk file, you can just download any which way you want and then install it as normal, just make sure that you’re unknown sources box is checked. If you’re going to flash the zip, make sure you have a custom recovery installed on your device, then proceed to download the zip file and place onto your phones main memory, open recovery, select install zip from SDcard, then Choose zip from SDcard, select the zip file to flash, and then reboot. Pretty simple. If you have never flashed a zip through recovery before it is best to perhaps just install the .apk, or at the very least make sure you watch a tutorial on how to do so before you go venturing into recovery mode as you don’t want to brick your device.
