This morning, AT&T announced some new plans that were actually pretty surprising to most of us. They are preparing to launch some new Mobile Share plans next week, which include off-contract and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) pricing. Now when I read about that this morning, it was early in the morning, but man I was so confused by them. I will say that I am a T-Mobile fan (in fact, most of our staff are T-Mobile customers), but I was honestly very confused by AT&T’s new plans.
This afternoon, T-Mobile came out with some harsh words about the changes AT&T is making. They are calling them confusing and expensive. And as I just said they are pretty confusing, and they are still expensive, however they are a bit cheaper than before, so at least it’s a step in the right direction for AT&T.
T-Mobile’s marketing executive Andrew Sherrard spoke with CNETtoday. He stated “After you do the complicated math, in multiple cases, these new plans are actually a price hike for consumers.” Of course, as expected, Sherrard also said that a family of four can save over $600 in the first year with T-Mobile’s Simple Choice Plan.
While AT&T’s new plans are a bit cheaper, or they look to be cheaper at least, Sprint and T-Mobile’s plans are still financially better. But here’s the disclaimer. Depending on where you live will depend on how good of a deal Sprint and T-Mobile really is for you. For me, T-Mobile is the best deal as their coverage is as good as AT&T in my area. Making T-Mobile the best deal. But that might not be the case for everyone. So before you make a decision, remember to check coverage of these carriers. And don’t go by what the reps at your local store say, because they just want to sell you a phone and make that commission.
