Acer is also announcing a new tablet during CES week, joining Polaroid. This one is the Acer Iconia A1-830. Which is obviously a very low-end tablet. It’s got a 7.9-inch 1024×768 resolution IPS display. It’s powered by the Intel Atom Z2560 processor which is clocked at 1.6GHz, along with 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM. So it’s not going to be the best tablet for multi-tasking, but it will get the job done. Acer claims that the Iconia A1-830 is made or video, and it has dual speakers around back to deliver rich sound. Although, I’d rather have front-facing speakers, dual-speakers is still better than 1 speaker I guess.
The Acer Iconia A1-830 also has 16GB of internal storage, along with a microSD card slot which supports up to 32GB in additional storage. Here’s where this tablet shines, the rear-facing camera can capture full HD video with a resolution of 2560×1920. While the front-facing camera can capture 720p video at 1600 x 1200. The Iconia A1-830 also supports b/g/n wireless networks as well as support for Bluetooth 3.0. Too bad there’s no Bluetooth 4 or BLE support.
Acer is also offering a few accessories with the Acer Iconia A1-830. This includes the Acer Crunch Keyboard. Which is for users that need a keyboard, and it’s a state-of-the-art ultra-slim Crunch keyboard that is built into a soft synthetic leather case. The keyboard easily folds out while the case serves as a stand. There’s also the Acer Crunch Cover. Which is made of durable microfiber, the Crunch cover folds out into a tablet stand with multiple angle settings to suite a range of user preferences.
As far as pricing and availability goes, Acer states that the Iconia A1-830 will be available this quarter and will be priced at $149 in the US and $199 in Canada. I think that for this tablet, the price point is right about where it should be. Although, I’d love to see a better display on this one, the 1024×768 is getting a little old in 2014. However, for under $200, you can’t really complain. Although you could grab the Nexus 7.
