Alcatel has just announced two new tablets at CES 2104, according to CNet, the OneTouch Pop 7 and the OneTouch Pop 8. There were rumors flying around that Alcatel would most likely announce the OneTouch Pop 7 at CES. Back in late October when we featured a story on the device, we knew little about the tablet, other than the fact that it would come in many fun colors and would be a low-to-midrange priced tablet. They definitely seem to be touting the fact that they have LTE connectivity, rather than emphasizing their specifications.
The Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 is, obviously, a 7-inch tablet with a TFT Display of 1024 x 600 resolution, meaning the viewing angles will be very limited on this device. It is powered by a 1.3GHz dual-core processor and contains a meager 2MP main camera and only a VGA front facing camera (FFC), so video chatting and picture-taking will not be its forte. It only weighs in at .62 pounds but it is rather on the “fat” side at .35-inches, although they said it, “doesn’t feel uncomfortable when held and actually reminds me a lot of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch with its smooth plastic backside.”
Alcatel bumps up the specs on the OneTouch Pop 8 with a 1280 x 800 resolution IPS display that delivers the wider angle viewing associated with IPS displays. Running the show inside is a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. The Pop 8 still uses the 2MP main camera and the VGA FFC. The weight goes up to .71 pounds, but has a slightly thinner build coming in at .31-inches. The bezels on the Pop 8 are very thin and the material is the same plastic as its Pop 7 cousin, but the overall impression is that the Pop 8 is a more refined design.
Let us know on our Google+ Page if these two tablets would interest you or cause you to take the leap into your first tablet purchase. No price or released date were revealed, but Alcatel said they were shooting for a price under $200 for the Pop 7 and under $300 for the Pop 8 – so $199 and $299 sound about right!
