The rumor mill has been buzzing for quite some time now for the alleged release of a lighter version of the hugely popular Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet. However the rumors did not quench our thirst in regards to the devices’ specifications – until now. In the latest leak, this time from GSMArena, we come face to face with some actual specifications of the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite – now re-christened as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 ‘Neo’.
In a first for the mobile phone industry, Samsung is equipping the Galaxy Note 3 Neo with a hexa-core processor which would contain two 1.7 GHz cores and four 1.3 GHz cores. The technical specifications of this chip are as of yet unavailable, however we would assume it to be similar to the big.LITTLE architecture of the octa-core Exynos 5420 processor found in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. This would mean that the lower powered 1.3 GHz quad-core chip would handle menial and regular tasks to conserve battery, whereas the more powerful 1.7 GHz dual cores would be reserved for heavier weight lifting in games and processor intensive applications. However this line of thought is merely speculation, clarity would set in once Samsung releases further details on this hexa-core processor.
Apart from the beefed up processor – which looks like an attempt by Samsung to cut costs, but not sacrifice too much on productivity vis- -vis the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – the Galaxy Note 3 Neo is similar in specs to its older sibling, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The device sports a 5.55 inch 720p super AMOLED display, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal storage with a Micro-SD expansion slot and a 3100 mAh battery. The device is fitted with an 8 mega pixels (MP) primary shooter and a 2 MP front facing camera for video calls. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box and includes some custom features in-built by Samsung in the Galaxy Note 3 – including Air Command and Advanced Multi-Window.
Overall the phone seems to be a pretty decent piece of hardware; however there is no clear launch date in sight and neither do the rumors point towards a selling price point. We would have to wait for any official word from Samsung in this regards.
