Beats Music is Now Live with 7-Day Trial, $9.99 Per Month After That

The subscription music scene has become increasingly popular over the last year, and now there’s one more contender to throw its hat into the ring: Beats Music.  Yes the same popular brand that Dr. Dre and HTC have popularized is getting its own streaming music service, complete with a new kind of personalized playlist creator.  Beats said it would launch the service today, January 21st, and it came through on its word and delivered, with 7-day free trials for all to boot.  AT&T users have it best all-around as they get up to a 3 month free trial of the new service, as well as having a payment plan all their own.  For $14.99 per month AT&T users can subscribe to the Beats Family Plan, which allows all of the devices on your line to listen to unlimited Beats music streaming, and it even utilizes AT&T’s new sponsored data plans so streaming music through Beats won’t count towards your monthly data usage at all.  The rest of us peasants on other carriers only get the standard $9.99 per month per account for unlimited streaming.

When you download the app you’re asked to sign up for an account using your Facebook or Twitter account, or if you’d prefer your e-mail address.  You’ll then be given the 7-day free trial and asked what genres and artists you like from a set of randomly selected groups.  Beats will then customize your playlists and suggest music to you, which you can then play.  They also have an interesting randomized playlist feature where you can assemble a sentence that curates a customized playlist just for you.  You can also browse the expert playlists that have been assembled with top hits and best songs in a genre.  The list includes musicians, celebrities and DJs, as well as some other folks that create popular playlists on the Beats service.  Beats Music boasts that it has over 20 million songs to choose from, so it should be pretty easy to find what you want to listen to.  Does Beats have what it takes to compete with the likes of Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora and others?  We will see in the coming months, but the Beats name is as popular as ever right now, so they’ve certainly got that going for them.  Hit up the Play Store link below for your chance to try this new service out for the next week.
