Right in range, of the smart house we are seeing so much about this year at CES, Dacor, has some appliances they are showing off as well. Belkin seems to be tackling the same room of our house, the kitchen, but Dacor has a bigger appliance in mind, the Smart Range.
Adding to their line of smart appliances called Discovery iQ, is the 48” Dual Fuel Range. The range comes equipped with an Android powered tablet at the helm complete with the ability to run apps, and act as a tablet in every sense. The part of the tablet that controls the range though, is the Discovery iQ app. This app controls all the main functions of the range from burners to timers. Making cooking easier, is the ability to control remotely.
Dacor has also developed their own remote app, which allows the tablet to be accessed from anywhere using another smart device. Again, all main functions can be controlled and monitored from anywhere in your house.
What comes along with the $11,999 price tag, is the 7-inch Android tablet, six top burners and two ovens. Making this a high-end appliance, but well worth it, if you can throw that much cash into your kitchen appliances.
This range gives great control over every aspect of cooking, down to the ability to check the temperature of the meat inside. Making even the laziest of cooks want to spend more time in their kitchen, even if it’s just to surf the net on your range. The range by Dacor, also has some built-in safety features. Whenever someone is using the range via the built-in tablet, all users connected from other rooms will be kicked off the controls. The top burners also can’t be controlled via the mobile app. These are safety features that are most likely welcomed from those with pranksters in the house, one could only imagine the possibilities.
Some other features, include automatic detection of temperature. Meaning if you have downloaded cooking settings, you can just select the setting and the oven will automatically pre-heat to the set temperature. Hopefully, that option works better than the popcorn option on a microwave.
If you are in the market for a high-end kitchen, and want to start building your smart kitchen, you will have to wait until Summer 2014. At launch, the smart range will be coming in a 48” and a 36” option, no word yet on a price difference.
