There are currently a few ways to get Android up and running on larger displays, although all of them pretty much require separate equipment and the use of mirroring your Android devices display to the big screen. Dell is cutting out the use of the extra Android device altogether, and is going to be providing users with an option to put Android up on any screen that has an HDMI input. How will they be doing this? With their tiny little Wyse Cloud Connect dongle, that runs Android Jelly Bean. Yep, with the Wyse dongle, there’s no need to mirror your android device to your big TV as it runs Jelly bean itself, making using such apps as the browser or Google Drive on the big screen a snap. The Wyse dongle also has MHL capabilities as well as Bluetooth support and a mini USB port, in case you need to connect up things like a keyboard.
Dell’s aim here is to target business customers with an easily portable computing device option that can be taken anywhere and will give travelers the tools they need. Support for Wifi will ensure that you could use the Wyse dongle to stay connected wherever you have it plugged in so long as there’s a Wifi connection around to link up to, and the full access to the Play Store will provide users of the device access to any such apps and tools they might need to get their work done, while also letting them have access to apps and games that can afford them a little bit of relaxation away from work related activities.
The device is definitely more business centric it seems like, so the people who will end up mainly buying these are most likely going to be business customers and people who need to jetset for work and will need a suitable option for computing on the go, but that doesn’t mean that the Wyse dongle isn’t capable of having a little fun. Remember that full access to the Play Store is present in the device, and Dell makes it a point to mention the Wyse dongles HD and 3D capabilities, which means media and even games could be a possibility. With 8GB of internal storage space, and 1GB of RAM, the device should be able to handle any work related tasks as well as the occasional streaming movie on a trip, but for $129 bucks is this device worth it to everyday consumer? The Wyse dongle also packs a microSD slot with up to an additional 72GB of storage space in case you need it, and is powered by a Cortex-A9 ARM SoC. Quite possibly the best part of all, is that it literally fits in your pocket. Dell is certainly appealing to the less is more crowd with this dongle, and even though its more geared towards business customers, It’s safe to say that some consumers will probably pick one up.
