Not too long ago, Acer announced the Chromebook C720. They then followed up that one with a cheaper version of the C720, which had 2GB of RAM instead of the standard configuration of 4GB of RAM. Then just recently, Acer added another Chromebook to the C720 line. That’s the C720P which is a touchscreen Chromebook. On Friday, Acer announced a new color for the Acer C720P Chromebook. It is now coming in white. It’s the Acer C720P-2600.
As far as the specs go for the new C720P-2600, they are identical to the C720P. Which includes the same 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 resolution display. It’s also sporting the Intel Celeron 2955U processor, which is based on the Intel Haswell micro-architecture. So it delivers great speeds and amazing battery life. If it’s anything like the battery life on the C720 Chromebook, you are going to love it. I was able to get around 10 hours of battery life on the C720 while I was reviewing it. It’s also featuring a 32GB SSD drive, that makes the boot time less than 7 seconds. It’s also very compact at just 0.78 inches and weighing just 2.98 pounds.
For pricing and availability, the Acer C720P-2600 will be the same price as the C720P is. That’s $299, and will be available at retailers next week. Also the new C720P comes with a standard one-year parts and labor warranty, which can also be extended to three years with the Acer Advantage service. This version of the Acer Chromebook isn’t available on Amazon just yet but, if touchscreens aren’t your thing you can get the C720 for just $199.
It’s nice to see Acer really getting serious about Chrome OS. In 2013, Acer launched three Chromebooks, all of which have sold very well and are in the top 10 popular “Laptops” on Amazon. Which definitely saying something about Chromebooks and Chrome OS. I’m excited to see what Acer does in the rest of 2014, but they are already kicking it off to a good start, in my opinion.
