On Tuesday, Google announced that they had added a new activity stream to Google Drive. Google is describing it as “a single, easy-to-view place to review every action taken on your files and folders”. All you have to do to access it, is click the ⓘ button on the top right corner, and the activity stream will appear. Which shows you who has taken action on files and folders in My Drive. You will also see a rundown of what your team has been doing, which includes editing and commenting on notes, adding a new spreadsheet, renaming a spreadsheet and so much more.
Google has also made it easy to see what you’re only interested in. Simply click on the documents that you want to see the stream for, and the activity stream will constantly change to show the relevant information. Last month, Google also made it easier to take quick actions on your folders like rename, share, organize and more with a new drop-down menu at the top of each shared folder. Below that menu you’ll see the entire folder hierarchy so you can jump to a different folder with a single click. You can also see profile pictures to help you understand exactly who has access to that shared folder.
It’s interesting to see all these Google+ profile pictures inside Google Drive, at least more than before. But it’s yet another way that Google is integrating Google+ into everything, which I like but that’s probably because I’m a big Google+ user. Google says that the new activity stream will be rolling out to everyone within the next week or so. And they also urge us to try it out with your next group project and to let them know how it works out. I’m really liking these changes.
How many of you use Google Drive for everything? What do you think about these changes? Let us know in the comments below.
