In the latest canary version of Chrome, Google has added Google Now cards. For those that haven’t heard of Canary, it’s Chrome’s test build that allows Google to check out new features with a group of users. I normally use the dev build on my Chromebook (when I actually use them).
For those that want to enable Google Now in Chrome, all you need to do is go to chrome://flags and enable the “Now Experiment. Once it’s enabled you’ll need to relaunch your browser. Which does take a minute or two, obviously. You’ll have to sign into Chrome for Google Now to work, but if you’re using Chrome and you’re not signed in you really should be. Especially if you use Chrome on other devices. The experimental version of Google Now will be pulling information from Google Now on your iOS or Android device. You are able to set the location settings for Google Now for multiple devices by changing your system preferences within iOS and Android. After you’ve signed in, you’ll see Google Now-based notifications from your notifications bar in Windows or the tool bar at the top, if you’re using Mac OS X.
To turn off Now Cards in Chrome, you just need to click the grayed out bell icon in the lower right corner of your computer screen if you’re on Windows, or in the upper right corner if you’re on a Mac, to open the notifications center. Inside the Notifications center, click on the gear icon and uncheck the box next to “Google Now”. It’s just that simple to turn it off. For those that don’t want to have Google Now cards inside Chrome.
Remember, this is just the beginning of Google Now and Chrome integration. Like when Google Now was first released in Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean in 2012, it was pretty limited, and Google has added plenty of cards to it since then. So I’m sure we’ll see a lot more cards and features for Google Now in Chrome very soon!
