We may soon see some new devices come out of LG that are not flagships and are running KitKat. But we won’t complain about that, right? You may remember that with KitKat, Google made it possible for Android to run very well on lower-end devices. In fact it can run on a device with only 512MB of RAM. That wasn’t the case with other versions of Android. So it’s not really surprising to see low-end and mid-range phones coming out with KitKat on board. It’s definitely a trend we’d like to see continue.
Phone Arena is reporting today that quite a few unannounced LG handsets were spotted over at HTML5Test, and they are all appearing to be running Android 4.4 KitKat. These deivces includes several model numbers that aren’t associated with any existing LG handsets. These include the LG-D830, LS740, LG-D410, LG-D320, and the LG-MS323.
The LG-D830 may sound familiar. We actually saw that pop up in late November, the number is also close to the Nexus 5’s number which is the LG-D820 and D821. But that doesn’t mean much to us at this point. However it is running Android 4.4 KitKat, which is nice to see. And according to the user agent profile sighting, it appears to have a full HD display and LTE support.
Then there’s the LS740, which seems to be a device heading to Sprint soon. Likely to be a mid-range device with 4G LTE. The LS720 is the Sprint’s LG F3, which was announced last year, so it could be an upgrade to the Optimus F3. Additionally, other LG handsets launched by Sprint and LG had the “LS” in the beginning of their names.
Interesting to see so many devices showing up on HTML5Test, but as usual we don’t know much about these devices. But it is nice to see them running Android 4.4 KitKat, which is something I hope more and more OEMs do this year with their new devices. Especially those flagship devices out there.
