To wrap up LG’s Press Event at CES 2014, the Korean giant officially announced that the LG G Flex will be coming to the United States and feature in three of the four major carriers’ lineups. The G Flex is said to hit AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile in the coming months. LG are understandably quite proud of the technology and development that has gone into the G Flex and they spoke about some of the headlining advancements such as the curved display they developed in conjunction with their sister company, LG Display. As well as that, they spoke about the curved battery that came from LG Chem, which is part of the reason why the G Flex can quite literally “Flex.
If you’re unfamiliar with LG’s G Flex, aside from the fact that it’s sporting a curved display, we’ll fill you in a few of its specs. Featuring a design that’s mostly taken from the G2, including those buttons on the rear of the device, most of the internals are the same as well. With the same Snapdragon 800 and 2GB of RAM at the heart of the G Flex. When the two differ of course, is in their displays, with the G Flex featuring a 1280 x 720 6-inch curved OLED display, versus the G2’s 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 panel.
Needless to say, curved displays are still going to be a tough sell in general for the mobile industry and even though LG is bringing the G Flex stateside, it doesn’t mean that it’s going to sell. As with Samsung’s Galaxy Round, the G Flex may prove to be better left as an experiment however, in time consumers may come to appreciate the different design, which LG had a lot to say about on stage earlier on. There’s no word on pricing or specific dates just yet, we might hear more from AT&T’s event that’s also being held today but, we wouldn’t expect this to be a cheap device on whichever carrier you choose as your poison.
