We knew we’d see plenty of wearables at CES this year, and here we are with the first one of the show. This one is from Liquid Image which makes wearable cameras. They are releasing a small mountable camera capable of streaming video live over 4G LTE with the addition of a detachable module. This device is obviously targeted at athletes who want to stream their exploits in real time and organizations that want to broadcast their events. Additionally, it could also be used for home security. The Ego LS model 800 debuted at CES on Sunday, and it’ll be going on sale in June for $200. The LTE will retail for an additional $200.
This is the first mountable, wearable camera that can stream over LTE, and it can capture video at 1080p at up to 30fps or 60fps in “high action mode”, which makes for a pretty exciting live-stream as long as you can find a mountain biking trail with data coverage. It also has a 8-megapixel camera on board to take still shots. The camera also has WiFi and Bluetooth on board as well as low frequency RF. Liquid Image is claiming a battery life of up to six hours on WiFi and about 90 minutes to two hours when streaming on LTE.
The Liquid Image wearable camera is a pretty nice looking camera, and it looks pretty light weight. Now on the topic of battery life, when you think about it, the battery life is actually pretty good. I mean you’re streaming over 4G LTE for nearly two hours. I bet your own smartphone couldn’t do that. Well unless you have the Droid Maxx or something like that. I’d love to see it do more, especially if they want the device to work during games and such. But it’s still pretty awesome.
