One of the few pieces of pre-installed software on the newer Motorola devices, Moto Assist just got updated today. For those that aren’t aware, Motorola Assist assists you when you’re driving, sleeping and in meetings. Today’s update brings a few new features to the app, which is available in the Play Store, with just about every other feature of the Moto X, and the 2013 DROID Lineup.
According to the changelog, we’ve got the ability to reply to incoming SMS messages by using our voice. As well as improved driving detection, while driving Motorola Assist will automatically launch your favorite music app, and some bug fixes. This is nice to see these new updates for Motorola Assist. It’s important to point out that the improved driving detection is thanks to an update to the Motorola Contextual Services (which is kind of like Google Play Services, but for the Moto X, DROID Maxx, DROID Mini and DROID Ultra). It powers the activity detection in Assist and optimizes Touchless Control on the Moto X. This new version of Assist helps make drive mode detection faster and more accurate using Bluetooth for Moto Assist.
Motorola Assist is my favorite piece of “bloatware” right now. I mostly use it for when I’m asleep or driving. It’s nice not having my phone ringing so much throughout the night, since I do get a ton of emails. I think Motorola has some big plans for Assist in the future, and I’m really excited to see what those plans are, especially since it can be updated without an OTA update which is a pretty big deal in my opinion.
