LG’s got some new phones coming out, there’s no doubt about that, but the question as to which of their next big phones are going to be released first has been floating around for the past few weeks. Since the beginning of the month we’ve found out that the LG G Pro 2 will be the first big phone of 2014 for LG, with the LG G3 launching a few months after. We’ve seen that release date pushed up to as early as next month, February, and now we’re getting word from another South Korean insider saying that the phone will almost certainly launch in February, right after the official announcement at Mobile World Congress which takes place the week of February 24th. That doesn’t exactly leave a lot of time for LG to launch the phone in February but then again it wouldn’t make LG the first company ever to launch a product just days after an official announcement either.
As far as specs for LG’s second phablet go those too have been up in the air, but things are starting to become a little more solidified now. So far all the rumors have pointed to the G Pro 2 having a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, but now we’re learning the phone has gone through a series of upgrades and slight downgrades depending on the component in question. 3GB of RAM looks to be the new norm for a lot of devices, and so the G Pro 2 looks to have that behind the glass. Speaking of the screen it unfortunately looks like the display will not be a Quad-HD display as thought, rather a Full-HD one at 1080p. Remember a Quad-HD display is 4-times the number of pixels found in a 720p display, whereas 1080p is only double the number of pixels of 720p. I know, first world problems, right? Even at 1080p the 6-inch display of the G Pro 2 is still 367 pixels per inch, meaning you’re not likely to see any of those lovely pixels unless you stick your eyeballs right up to the display anyway. Last but not least the device seems to be shipping with Android 4.4 instead of the assumed Android 4.3, which goes hand in hand with the upgrade rumors we’ve seen moving through the industry about LG moving straight to Android 4.4 KitKat and skipping Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for many of its devices altogether. Great news all around here really, and it looks like Samsung has some serious contenders in the large phablet market coming up rather soon.
