OUYA has decided to refresh their gaming console, finally. The new model is sporting 16GB of internal storage, but don’t worry the microSD card slot is still there. It’s also sporting an updated controller, along with improvements to WiFi connectivity. The new version of the OUYA is going for $129, which was the same price as the limited edition White OUYA that was available for the holiday season, which also had 16GB of storage.
If you don’t want to spend $129 for the OUYA, you can still pick up the 8GB model for $99. Although I was kind of hoping they’d reduce the price on that one and price the newer model at $99. The OUYA is a pretty interesting gaming console. I don’t think it ever really picked up much steam though. It does have a ton of games made specifically for the console, but it doesn’t seem to have really sold all that well. Hopefully the newer version will sell a bit better, but I wouldn’t hold my breathe as there’s really not a whole lot of differences and it’s $30 more.
The new OUYA, and the old one for that matter, are available now from various places like Amazon, Best Buy, Gamestop, and Target. It’ll probably be available at more retailers soon as well. You can grab a spare controller for just $49.99, and faceplates for the controllers for just $9.99. There’s also a “couch gamer bundle” which consists of the 8GB system, four controllers and a $10 game credit, for $219.95. I kind of like the name of that bundle though.
How many of you are looking forward to picking up the new OUYA console? Are there enough changes here for you to consider upgrading or buying one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
