Pure, is a British company which is expanding their range of wireless speakers at CES this year. They are announcing the $299 Jongo T4 model to it’s existing lineup. The Jongo Speakers can stream music from an iOS or Android device, as well as a computer via WiFi or Bluetooth. The Jongo T4 is a 50-watt model that joins the Jongo T6, which has 100-watts of power.
Up until now, you were limited with the streaming-music services you can use with the Jongos. However, Pure says that is ending. Announcing today, that their products will support “any music-streaming service, including Pandora, Rdio, Deezer, and Spotify”. This feature will be rolling out to new and existing Jongo speakers in the first quarter of this year. Like in the past, you can join more than one Jongo speaker together to form a stereo pair, or to have the same music playing in different rooms. Pure also announced that they experience will now be much better thanks to it’s new Caskeid technology, which improves audio synchronization. The company also claims it can achieve “a level of synchronization only possible with wired systems” using the new Caskeid system. Which is definitely great to hear.
In order for that to work, you’ll need to use the Pure Connect app to set up the speakers, then stream music from your app to the Jongo via Bluetooth. The speaker will then send the audio to the other speakers you set up. Pure is also offering its snazzy swappable speaker grilles in a bunch of new colors. This includes the “Goblin Blue” and “Travertine”. These will be shipping in Q1 2014 for $20 in the US and 13 pounds in the UK. As you probably know, the Jongo speakers are entering an increasingly crowded market that is currently dominated by Sonos. The Jongo T4 is pitted against the Sonos Play:3 as far as price goes, which uses a proprietary Mesh networking system for wireless audio, rather than WiFi or Bluetooth.
