Rumor: Sony's Upcoming Flagship 'Sirius' Coming to Verizon in 2014

Sony has always been one of those manufacturers that stayed off a lot of people’s radars. Their products, namely the newer Xperia phones and tablets, demonstrate Sony’s interest in making compelling and beautiful hardware. On the software side, their walkman-esque skin reminds us of their standalone products, but isn’t without its benefits. And while we’ve not been the biggest fan of some things about their products (namely their screens), their waterproofing and dust-proofing certifications and reliability have made them reasonably successful products.

However, Sony has really stayed away from the U.S. Market for a lot of their devices recently – Verizon, especially. But it looks like that might be changing very soon. At their CES 2014 keynote, Sony announced the Xperia Z1S and Z1 Compact, which were not necessarily big surprises. However, they did not shed any light on their 2014 flagship smartphone, apparently codenamed Sirius. Very early this morning, @evleaks tweeted a tip that they acquired, saying the Sirius smartphone is going to debut at Mobile World Congress next month and will come with a 5.2-inch display.

The tweet mentions there is a MSM8974AB System-on-a-Chip inside, which means that it will be packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor. That’s not the Snapdragon 805 we were hoping for, but it’s by no means a slouch. However, the good news is that it appears that Verizon might be carrying this phone, which is something that is quite exciting. The last Sony phone that I remember being on Verizon was the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, a phone that had a game controller that slid out like a keyboard. I have a feeling that this new entry will surpass the Play easily.

What do you think of this new entry of Sony? Would you be interested in buying a Verizon brand Sony phone? Let us know!
