Samsung Takes On Sochi With the Galaxy Note 3 "Olympic Games Edition"

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi will be starting in a very few weeks and athletes from around the world will flock to compete to see which one is the best the world can offer in their particular Olympic event.  It looks like we already have a “Gold Medal” winner in the category of Official Olympic Smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which just announced their “Olympic Games Edition.”

There is no indication how much this “little” promotion will cost Samsung, but the Samsung branding will be widespread at the Games and Samsung will give each Olympic athlete a new Galaxy Note 3 – a small win for sure, but one that each Olympian will enjoy.  With Samsung’s name plastered all over the Sochi Games, the advertising and goodwill, on a worldwide stage, will be worth whatever amount it is costing Samsung.

Not one just to give away Galaxy Note 3 devices, Samsung is taking this opportunity to promote the new “Olympic Games Edition” Galaxy Note 3 in the Netherlands, on KPN’s network.  It will have its own Olympic-themed packaging, a unique flip-cover, and even a chance to win a trip to the Sochi Games and participate in a skate or snowboard clinic.

The Samsung Olympic Games Edition will not make it to other countries, which is a shame because so many people are really into the Olympics and the device could offer a way for hometown users to communicate with their Olympians in Sochi – send them encouraging messages or congratulations upon a winning a medal.

It looks like Samsung and our friends in Canada have taken matters into their own hands by offering, via Samsung Canada, their Notes from Home initiative that encourages Canadians to send direct messages their five of Olympians – pretty cool. It would be nice if more countries would offer this kind of encouragement to their Olympic Athletes, as well.

Please let us know on our Google+ Page what you think of this Samsung coup – it seems like a great move on Samsung’s part, and no matter how much it cost them, the advertising and goodwill are “priceless.” Would you like to see this edition come to our markets and is it something that would interest you?
