After we heard yesterday that Samsung was looking to announce the Galaxy S5 on February 23rd, the day before Mobile World Congress kicks off, now it looks like Samsung has changed their mind. According to Eldar Murtazin, it looks like Samsung’s not sure of the date and place where they will announce the Galaxy S5. But reportedly, Samsung is looking at London again, and Murtazin says he’ll have more information in a few days.
By contrast, last year Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 at a separate event a couple weeks after Mobile World Congress, which is why they got so much press coverage, which is exactly what they wanted. Which made it a bit strange that they would announce the Galaxy S5 on February 23rd, which is a Sunday and the day before Mobile World Congress kicks off. And while it’s not unheard of for press conferences to take place on Sunday (in fact there will probably be a number of them), but it doesn’t sound likely for Samsung to do so then. As they want all the press coverage, and they do not want to share that coverage with their competitors, which makes sense.
As far as we know, the Galaxy S5 is going to be announced in the next two months. An exact date is still no where to be found. But we are expecting a 5.25-inch 1440×2560 resolution display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a Snapdragon 800/805 processor. Although we’ve heard that Samsung is looking to stop depending on Qualcomm for processors. So we may see an Exynos processor inside the Galaxy S5. But we’ll have to wait for Unpacked to find out.
