Talks about Samsung coming out with their own alternative to the Android operating system developed by Google have been floating in the wind for quite some time. We’ve heard many rumors regarding launch dates and announcements about said devices. Samsung themselves have even made public announcements stating that the first Tizen powered handsets would be shown off at major events in past years. However we’re almost an entire month into the new year and we have still had no official announcement or official unveiling of any smartphone that runs the Tizen operating system.
That could all soon change, as an image of the first unannounced Samsung smartphone to be powered by the Tizen OS has shown up at a korean tech site called moveplayer.net. The image lists the device as being called the Samsung ZEQ9000, (i’ll resist all urges to make a stupid DBZ joke)and according to the information on the site, the ZEQ9000 will feature a 4.8 inch screen at 720p resolution. The device is also listed as having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor inside, which if true, should prove to be a fairly powerful handset in terms of mobile computing. Although the operating system itself looks quite different from what we’re used to seeing from Samsung devices, the design of the phone is actually quite comparable to that of their Galaxy S line, in fact, the ZEQ9000 bares a striking resemblance to that of the Galaxy S 3.
If this is indeed the final design of the first Tizen handset to the hit the market, it’s a wonder why Samsung wouldn’t have strived to come up with something a little less familiar when compared to already existing past products. Although the U.S. is supposedly not going to see any Tizen smartphone devices for some time, the Galaxy line of devices from Samsung is a global line of products, so short of seeing the display turned off itself and noticing the obvious differences between the UI design on it and that of Samsung’s Android powered smartphones, anyone in the region where this could be released, could easily mistake this phone for another Galaxy device just by looking at the form factor. No information regarding this particular device has been confirmed as of yet, nor has the image itself been confirmed to be the actual first Tizen device, but Mobile World Congress is just around the corner so perhaps we’ll learn more about this ZEQ9000 around that time.
