Back at IFA last year, Son announced the QX10 and QX100 lens-style cameras alongside Xperia Z1. The QX10 is currently priced at $250 with the QX100 priced at $500. Sure they are pretty expensive, but they are pretty amazing too. With one of these in your arsenal, you no longer have to worry about the crappy camera on the Moto X or Nexus 5. As these camera lens are compatible with all Android and iOS devices.
About a month ago, Sony informed all of us about an upcoming software update that was coming to these two camera lens, and it’s finally here. This firmware update adds Full-HD video recording capabilities and a few other features as well. What this means is that now both of these camera lens can record video at up to 1920×1080 resolution. Prior to the update, it would max out at 1440×1080.
The QX100 has also gotten the Shutter priority mode now, which allows you to directly control the speed of the shutter. Sony has also improved the ISO range as well, to boost performance in low-light capabilities. It is now sporting a max ISO of 12800. Over on the QX10, the ISO has also been increased to 3200. For those that aren’t super camera geeks, this means that both lenses are able to take better low-light pictures, which is always a huge plus.
Unfortunately, this update is not an OTA. You will need to install it manually. So you’ll need to head to a computer and Update it, and it looks like you’ll only be able to update on a Windows machine. You can download the update here. The update is about 87.30MB in size. So it’s not too terribly large.
How many of you out there have picked up either the Qx10 or QX100 camera lens? What do you think about them? Let us know in the comments below.
