Sony Rumored to Launch the Xperia Z2 at Mobile World Congress with 5.2-inch 2560×1440 Display

It seems that at every trade show, Sony is announcing a new phone. They announced the Xperia Z1 at IFA last fall, then the Xperia Z1s at CES last week, and now there’s a rumor that they are announcing the Xperia Z2 at Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona. Now before we continue, it’s important that we note that this is a rumor and should be treated as such.

It looks like Sony will be introducing the Xperia Z2 next month, which is the same handset that’s been codenamed Sirius, which we’ve seen leaking out a few times already. As far as specs go, the Xperia Z2 is slated to sport a 5.2-inch 2560×1440 resolution display, along with the same 20.7MP camera that was in the Xperia Z1 and Z1s. There’s also a massive 3700mAh battery. Which is a pretty hefty jump, and size, from the Xperia Z1 and Z1s. The Xperia Z1 has a 3000mAh battery, and it does the job, but heavy users will want more. The Xperia Z2 is also expected to be sporting the Snapdragon 800 processor and about 3GB of RAM.

There was a rumor that the Xperia Z2 would carry the Snapdragon 805 processor, which is a slight update from the Snapdragon 800, but that’s not expected to be in new phones until around May or so. Which means we will only really see a new display and battery size in this Xperia Z2, as the 3GB of RAM won’t really make much of a difference for most users, unless Sony decides to really bog up their skin. It’s definitely a phone we’re excited for. Hopefully Sony gets this one on a few US carriers around launch, so it’s not another phone where those of us in the US are thinking “cool another phone we’ll never see”.

Who else is excited for the Sony Xperia Z2?
