Since Sony’s been in the Android smartphone business, they’ve slowly but surely embraced the low-end budget sector and delivered some pretty compelling devices that cost all that much. However, as is always the case with Sony, these budget devices never compromise on quality and today they’re back with a few more devices, that offer pretty decent experiences without breaking the bank. The big guy of the bunch, the Xperia T2 Ultra comes with a 6-inch 720p display, a quad-core 1.4 Ghz Snapdragon CPU (probably of the Snapdragon 400 variety) and 1GB of RAM. On the storage front, we’ve got 8GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot capable of taking 32GB of storage.
Interestingly enough, the Xperia T2 Ultra comes in both dual-SIM versions (hence, the “Dual” naming) and features 4G LTE. Which leads us to believe that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 might be at work here but, it could also just be an older chipset. Packing a fairly sizable 3,000 mAh battery the Xperia T2 Ultra is just 7.6mm thick and weighs just 173g, however while it might look like the Xperia Z family of devices – like the Xperia Z1s – there’s no water proofing going on here so, this is definitely not something you could go swimming with. On the camera side of things, Sony hasn’t skimped there either, with a 13-megapixel Exmor R sensor that Sony is very proud of but, just how good it turns out to be we’ll have to wait and see to find out.

Available in China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific the Xperia T2 Ultra is very much a device aimed at those on a budget and for emerging markets. Which is a pretty smart move from Sony, if they can gain some market share in those regions, then they should definitely bring more devices of this caliber to the are. There are no pricing details given just yet but, judging from the amount of specs on offer here, we wouldn’t expect this to be a bargain price. In fact, we would expect it to be priced more like the Xperia SP was, which was a solid mid-ranger from Sony last year.
