T-Mobile's CEO John Legere Pokes Fun At At&t With Latest Press Release

T-Moible has changed quite a bit in the past year and a half, from rate plans, to ad campaigns, with the CEO John Legere at the helm it’s been quite the wild ride in terms shaking things up. Legere is rather good at ruffling some feathers, and he certainly knows how to capture the crowd. His famous tweets are one of the things that make him so well known in the public eye, as he likes to poke fun at and make fun of competitors openly, but everything is usually in good taste and has a friendly competitiveness. In his latest stunt, Legere has a fake press release drawn up as a follow up response to the move that At&t announced for its plans to win back customers from T-Mobile. Just as T-Mobile started offering other carriers customers the chance to send a break up letter and switch over, while also paying for their contract ETF’s and buying their phones, At&t is offering to pay $450 for customers to come back to At&t and leave T-Mobile.

This part of the press release is obviously fake and just one big joke, but some might look at it as going a little too far. We think if you have a sense of humor, you can look past the fact that Legere is making jokes and realize that he doesn’t mean any harm by it. It is afterall, customary for things to get competitive in this industry, and someone like John Legere is a fresh face with a fresh outlook on how to operate. Jokes are just his way of having a little fun. This is the fake press release that T-Mobile responded with:
“Call it an awakening,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T Mobility, “but I felt it was time to really stir things up and put the customer first for a change. And by “customer” I’m referring to our former customers who switch to T-Mobile, because our current customers don’t really qualify.” De la Vega said that the new T-Mobile switching offer was custom designed to entice its millions of contract customers to go ahead and give T-Mobile a try. “If for any reason you don’t love T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network, which is now faster than ours, we’ll actually pay you up to $450 to come back to AT&T, I kid you not.”

Besides writing fake notes and posing as Ralph De La Vega to issue statements on At&t’s practices, Legere mentions that De La Vega had nothing to do with the fake press release that was put out there, and that he actually never said anything that was stated within it. That wasn’t the only fun that legere had with At&t and Ralph though, in the same press release, he makes a statement that Ralph De La Vega was basically Darth Vader. Legere says: “I guess we all have moments of doubt. You know? Like, can the darkness ever be defeated? But that they’ve singled us out in this way is just so affirming. I guess we must be doing something right. I mean, if AT&T can change, it feels like anything’s possible. “It’s kind of like that scene where Darth Vader’s lying there and Luke helps take off his helmet, and you see that, okay, sure, Darth Vader’s pretty ugly, but he’s human after all.” Statements like these are certainly unconventional, but poking fun and getting a reaction out of At&t seems to be what Legere wants, and there doesn’t seem to be any harm in having a little fun. What do you think about Legere’s latest statements and jokes?
