No 'Active' Variant Expected, The Standard Samsung Galaxy S5 to be Water and Dust Proof

One of the most hotly anticipated devices of the year is undeniably Samsung’s latest iteration of their wildly successful Galaxy S Series – the Samsung Galaxy S5. Any smartphone device with the kind of pedigree as that boasted by the Galaxy S5 will definitely be subject to a host of rumors and conflicting ‘leaks’. In following up on the leaks and rumors pertaining to the Samsung Galaxy S5, we had earlier reported that Samsung was planning to unleash an ‘active’ variant, which would be a rugged Galaxy S5 sibling, capable of resisting dust and water.

However, in the latest news from Samsung’s home base Korea, ZDNet reveals an anonymous source as stating that “[f]or the previously released Galaxy S4, water-proof and dust-proof capabilities were adapted to the handset’s variants. But for the Galaxy S5, the standard model will have them immediately.” Water and dust resistance have turned out to be coveted features and we have seen some of this (and last years’) premium and flagship devices boasting of the same (especially Sony’s Xperia Z series). This rumor is in direct contradiction to a previous leak that indicated that the Korean manufacturer was working on an ‘Active’ variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and was hoping to aggregate close to 25 percent sales from this variant.

As a rumor roundup, we are looking forward to the Samsung Galaxy S5 being a beast of a device with a 5.24 inch Super AMOLED display with a QHD 2K resolution (which translates into a 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution). This results in an amazing 560 pixels per inch resolution – one of the highest resolutions available in the market so far. The device would be powered by Samsung’s home-grown Exynos 6 processor while another variant would be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. Each of these variants would be market dependent – the same as we saw with the Samsung Galaxy S4 last year. Other purported specs indicate a 3 GB RAM, 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage (with an expandable Micro-SD slot) as well as a whopping 3200 mAh battery pack. The device will also be the first to sport a 16 megapixels ISOCELL primary camera and will include a 3.2 MP front facing video call camera. A fingerprint sensor would be onboard as well, as confirmed by Samsung.

As with all rumors, we would advise you to take this one with a pinch of salt. Do you think this beast of a device would grace us in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S5 or you think this is merely someone’s wishlist. Do let us know in the comments below.
