The big news to come out of the tech industry today is that after months of searching, Microsoft has finally found their next CEO. You’re probably wondering just why we hear at Android Headlines are reporting on such news. Well, we don’t have tunnel vision here and let’s face it, a new CEO of Microsoft, one of the most powerful tech companies in the world will come to affect the whole industry. As a lot of us were expecting, Satya Nadella has been appointed the new CEO of Microsoft. Having joined the company 22 years ago, Nadella is s Microsoft man through and through. In fact, Microsoft’s choice of CEO could be a sign of where Microsoft is going to be focusing their efforts in the coming years.
Nadella was born in India in 1969 and studied Electrical Engineering at the Mangalore University which led to a computer science degree from the University of Wisconsin. Nadella used to work for rival Sun Microsystems before joining the company over 20 years ago. He’s worn a number of different hats within Microsoft and has been instrumental in Microsoft’s server and online businesses. Nadella has worked on pretty much everything from the Office team to working with Microsoft’s answer to Google, Bing. His claim to fame however is leading the Server and Tools division within Redmond and pioneering the transition to more cloud-based products.
Satya’s been working on the cloud infrastructure for some of Microsoft’s consumer-facing products such as Xbox Live and Skype for some time now, however he’s been very much focused on the enterprise side of things, rather than the consumer aspect of the business. Appointing someone who has more experience with enterprise than consumers might not sound like a great idea however, it might be just what the company needs in order to make Windows on tablets and smartphones a success. The focus of somebody like Nadella could be the push Microsoft needs to better compete with Apple and of course, Android.
