Amazon has just announced that they’re extending the use of Amazon Coins to all users on Android, whether you’re using a Kindle Fire or not. That’s great news for anyone who likes to use the Amazon App store or had a general interest in Amazon Coins to begin with. This introduction of an Amazon App Store specific currency was a way to help developers make money off their submissions of apps, and now that it has been made widely available to any Android device owner, devs should start to see even more monetization than they might have since the Coins arrived last year for Amazon’s Android tablets.
There is at least one thing required to use Amazon Coins if you’re interested in doing so. You’ll have to be on the latest version of the Amazon App store to take advantage of the Amazon Coin usage. Once your app is all updated, any balance of Amazon Coins that you may already have can be used to purchase apps, games, etc., as well as pay for in-app purchases, all from the Amazon App Store. This is similar to the way you might make payments for apps, games, books, and IAP from the Play Store with your Play Store credits, just for Amazon instead. The Amazon Coins are available for use to anyone who has an Android device inside the U.S., U.K., and Germany, so if you reside in any one of those three countries you can get started using these right away after you update the app.
