We have a lot of options for streaming music in the Android world today. With options like Spotify, Pandora and Google Play Music, it can be a little overwhelming. Some music streaming apps give you the ability to listen to whatever song you want, whenever you want. Some give you the option to create radio stations using a genre, song or musician. Some do both. There are a lot of options for music streaming, and more are being added all the time.
It’s possible that we may have yet another option to include in the already crowded music streaming world. Amazon could be looking to get into the music streaming game, as well. Amazon has been on a music related hiring spree since 2012. They hired a Sony executive, a streaming services employee and a new licensing man, as well. Currently, Amazon allows for the purchase of music through its website and an application called “Amazon MP3”. Amazon is currently in serious talks to start up its own streaming service for music, much like Pandora and Google Play Music. It’s a possibility that we could see this application get updated to allow for music streaming and music on demand, since it would save money and a new app wouldn’t have to be created.
Rumor also has it that this music streaming service will be included in Amazon Prime. If you don’t remember, an Amazon Prime subscription currently gives users free two day shipping and the ability to view select movies for free and as many times as the consumer wants. It is unclear as to when we’ll be seeing this streaming service, and how it will be implemented in an Android app.
According to Re/Code, Amazon is still in talks right now with major labels, attempting to get the best deal on their music streaming service. Apparently Amazon is looking for an extremely good deal, and has been requesting lower prices than these labels give other streaming services. These talks aren’t anywhere close to being finished, so we’ll just have to wait and see what price they settle at.
What streaming service do you currently use? Would you be willing to try out Amazon’s streaming app if it were to become available?
