Race fans and drift freaks should gear up and get ready for a fast paced weekend on their tablets or smartphones. The longest standing racing franchise has just made its way onto Android and it’s coming in at full speed. Developed by Namco-Bandai,(or Bandai-Namco as they have decided to rename themselves) Ridge Racer Slipstream pays homage to the arcade racing classic and favorite of gamers worldwide for many years. We briefly touched on this game before when we learned that it would making its way to the Play Store, but as of yesterday the game is finally here and ready to suck up half your day.
First, lets over some great points about the game. You can expect a full review of this game later on once MWC is all over, but for now lets go over some of the features and notable mentions. Ridge Racer Slipstream is probably “THE” best racing game on Android that introduces Drift mechanics into the gameplay. Is it the best racing title overall? That’s hard to say because I haven’t spent that much time with yet. It’s definitely up there though. Throughout the game you’ll have to opportunity to amass 12 racing machines to fill your garage. Once you have all the cars you’ll need, there are plenty of customizations to perform to get that Drift machine as fine tuned as possible.(In total there are over 300 customization capabilities) From engine and down force upgrades, to body kits and vinyl applications to give your car that custom unique look and feel, there are plenty of ways to individualize and improve your ride. When it comes to tracks, Ridge Racer Slipstream has 20 total courses spread out over 10 unique venues, and 108 racing competitions over 6 grand prix series to keep you occupied for quite some time.
You can choose to race in career mode or get in a few minutes of play time during Arcade modes “regular” and “knockout” races, but whichever you choose to fill your time you should be quite satisfied. Ridge Racer Slipstream supports multiple logins, so you can sign in with either Facebook or Google+, and the Google Play Games Services provides you with Achievements and leaderboards. Think you’re the Drift King of 2014? Feel free to share your Drift prowess through either social network and claim your bragging rights. Ridge Racer Slipstream is surprisingly a free title, it does of course have the added and ‘optional” IAP available for those who want a little more of an advantage or head start. You can download the game from the Play Store and perfect your drifting skills whenever you’re ready.
