The HTC M8 will be making its debut in a short period of time, judging by all of these leaks. HTC can’t keep the device under wraps. Today we’re seeing what is purported to be the on-screen buttons for the M8. The image comes from an anonymous email leaked on the Chinese site Weibo. We’re looking at the standard back, home, and multi-tasking buttons that Google has laid out in the Android design guidelines that they would like every manufacturer to follow. This is the first time we’re seeing on-screen buttons from HTC. Up until now their entire device catalog has used an ever-changing set of capacitive and hardware buttons. The leaked image above shows us buttons that are themed a bit, which is to be expected coming from HTC. Even manufacturers like Sony that have made use of on-screen buttons for a while skin those buttons in an effort to differentiate their devices.
We’ve heard that the M8 may feature on-screen buttons before. There are also a slew of other rumors and leaks about the upcoming HTC M8. It could feature smaller bezels than those found on the HTC One. It should also sport a 5-inch display. The overall device size is rumored to be just a tad smaller than the One, even with that larger display size. If that’s true, it would mean that HTC did a great job thinning out the bezels and trimming the proverbial fat off the M8. I’m thinking that the M8 may have bezels as small as the ones on the LG G2.
The M8 could come in multiple colors including black, red, and white. The new HTC flagship smartphone is likely to have a 1080p display as well. A few cases have leaked online in photos too, showing us what looks like an opening on the back that could be for a fingerprint scanner like the scanner found on the HTC One Max. There have been a handful of concept images and videos created by avid fans as well. The HTC M8 could be announced this month, and we would not be a bit surprised if it was announced at a HTC press event just before MWC. MWC kicks off on the 24th of February this year so we should only have a few weeks to wait. Are you excited about the M8? Or do you think HTC is washed up?
