We just received word from Blackberry, that BBM for Android and iOS is being updated today with quite a few new features. The update is available on the Play Store and iOS App Store right now and include BBM Voice, BBM Channels, One-Click Sharing, DropBox Integration, Location Sharing, and new Emoticons.
BBM Voice allows users to make free voice calls to BBM contacts over any data connection. This also includes 3G and 4G LTE. BBM Channels give users access to active, real conversations between people, brands, and communities. Users are also able to create a new channel or subscribe to an existing BBM channel to join chats with others who share similar interests.
Additionally, BBM has added one-click sharing, which makes it faster for Android, iOS, and Blackberry users to share photos, documents, voice notes, and more. BBM has also introduced DropBox integration. So now users can send large files and videos through the cloud using Dropbox. You can then save files directly to your phone or add it to your Dropbox account.
Finally, BBM has also added location sharing. So now users can share their live location for a specified amount of time to other BBM contacts, it’s powered by Glympse. There are also some new emoticons as well. BBM users will be able to choose from 100 new emoticons. That’s in addition to the hundreds that are already available in BBM.
There’s quite a bit of new features in this update for BBM on both Android and iOS. It’s nice to see Blackberry still working on BBM, even though their own platform isn’t doing that well. While I’m sure they don’t have as many users on BBM as Whatsapp, Line, or even Hangouts. But pushing out big updates like this quickly, will help bring those users over. How many of our readers out there are still using BBM on their Android or iOS device?
