It isn’t the first device to come with Cyanogenmod built in, but the OnePlus One is sure making headlines as it is the first device to sport the CyanogenMod aftermarket Android firmware right out of the box from the get go. The Oppo N1 has a CyanogenMod version of the phone as well, but it first launched running standard Android without all the customization that a firmware such as CyanogenMod gives to users. OnePlus has let the world in on what’s going on with the device today, and says that they are officially beginning to test the device. Testing apparently started yesterday, but announcements hadn’t come until today. This isn’t the only tasty tidbit that we get though, as infamous leaker @evleaks has tweeted an image of what seems to be the OnePlus One box that has the prototype device inside.
The OnePlus One is scheduled for a launch sometime in the second quarter, and while OnePlus has stated that they will be aiming to offer a smartphone with some of the most top of the line specs and features, we actually know very little about the details surrounding the device. We have an idea on cost and a general release timeframe, as well as the phones version of software, but that’s about it. The OnePlus One is said to have a price tag that will be under the $500 mark, and all those “best specs around” should come in an unlocked device. The OnePlus One is the first phone that is actually going to be designed in partnership with Cyanogen Inc. to deliver a fully seamless experience with the CyanogenMod software. The phone is designed from the ground up with this idea in mind, so if the testing phase goes smoothly, and we’re hoping it will be as smooth as butter, then the OnePlus One should prove to be a formidable device for those who want a nice, powerful, and custom experience right out of the box at a more competitive cost. We’re eagerly awaiting the specs details about how much RAM, storage and power it will have, and we’d love to know what kind of camera we’ll be working with. Once testing is further along, more of those details might start to pop up.
