Mpow is probably one of those companies you haven’t heard of before. I know I hadn’t heard of them until a couple weeks ago. But they make various speakers, headphones and other products. Today, we’re taking a look at their Mini Speaker, which uses Bluetooth 4.0. The speaker is about 2-inches tall and about 3-inches wide. Making it a pretty small speaker, and from experience, I wasn’t expecting a lot from a speaker this size. But surprisingly the sound quality was really good on the Mpow speaker. Now it’s not better than the likes of the Beat Pill or the Supertooth Acoustic Sound speakers I’ve reviewed. But for a $35 speaker, it’s pretty good.
I used this speaker for about a week or so now, mostly with Google Play Music All Access, and I was quite impressed with the battery life on this small speaker. I was able to get around 8-10 hours of continuous playback with the volume about halfway. Now Mpow says the standby time is around 350 hours, obviously I didn’t test that as I was using it to review it. But that’s some pretty good battery standby right there, even for a speaker of this size.
The Mpow Mini Speaker also has a speakerphone built-in so you can go ahead and take phone calls from the speaker with ease. It’ll connect to any device using Bluetooth 4.0 and above. That includes Android smartphones, and tablets as well as laptops, Macbooks, iPads, and more. It comes with a microUSB cord for charging, it also has a 3.5mm audio cable for when you don’t have a device with Bluetooth or don’t want to use Bluetooth, as well as a User guide.
It’s available right now for around $35 on Amazon, which I’d say for that price, it’s a definite buy. If you’re willing to spend a bit more on a speaker, then you could definitely pick up something a bit better like the Ultimate Ears Mini Boom. But overall, for the price I’m not sure you’d be able to find something much better than this Mpow mini speaker.
