Featured Review: Tech21 Impact Mesh Case and Impact Shield for Galaxy S4

The Galaxy S4 is a great phone, if not a perfect one. One of the glaring imperfections of the device is its slimy, plastic back. Even hardcore Samsung fans can agree that the plastic back just doesn’t feel good in your hand. It also scratches easily. A case on your GS4 can help the feel in your hand, and serve to keep it safe. I had chance to review the Tech21 Impact Mesh case for the GS4 that offers extra protection in a pretty slim package. Let’s take a look.

The main selling point of Tech 21 cases is the “Impactology” D30 material that they use. D30 is the orange lining that make these cases stand out from the crowd. The D30 material absorbs basically any and all drop force and dispels it out away from your phone. This is some of the best drop protection you can find anywhere. It rivals the venerable OtterBox at a fraction of the size. It really is the “ultimate impact protection” that the company claims it is.

This case is lightweight and slim. It actually just enough to the sides of the Galaxy S4 to make the phone fit very well in my hand. I got a clear Impact Mesh case from Tech21. The opaque color really made the orange D30 material stand out; people asked me about it almost every time I pulled the phone out. The case fit very well on the device and just barely overlapped the front of the phone. There was no play or wiggle once the case was on the phone, and it didn’t interfere with button or screen use. All of the cutouts were sized just right, too. Tech21 makes this case available in multiple colors, including Smokey Grey, pink, white, orange, and the clear/opaque one that they sent to me.

I also tested out the Impact Shield screen protector, and this thing really wowed me. I am not a fan of screen protectors, generally. Most of the ones I have tried inhibit actual screen use. It’s like my fingers stick to them; I can’t properly slide my fingers over the screen with a protector on it. I didn’t have that problem with the Impact Shield from Tech21. The protector is easy to apply. Tech21 provides the usual micro fiber lint-free cloth to clean the screen before you apply the protector, as well as a hard plastic squeegee to help remove any stray air bubbles. I had no issues getting things lined up properly and once it was applied, this screen protector was hardly noticeable to my eye or fingertip. Based on proof glass, the BulletShield technology provides excellet protection. It’s also self-healing, so small scratches disappeared all by themselves.

The Tech21 Impact Mesh case offers great protection in a slim size. The Impact Shield screen protector is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Combined, these two Galaxy S4 accessories make for fantastic all around protection for your phone. You can find more information about these accessories on the Tech21 website. The Impact Shield case goes for about $35 on Amazon. The screen protector sells for about $25 and is worth every penny.
