When a conference like the Mobile World Congress is put together, and phones are all over the place, being shown off behind closed doors, out on the floor for all attendees to see, it’s no surprise this sort of thing happens. We’re surprised that the Galaxy S5 hasn’t leaked out like this beforehand, but we suppose that not even Samsung can withstand this sort of exposure. As such, the Galaxy S5 has leaked out onto the Internet in its entirety, pretty much. There are a slew of photos that confirm some interesting details that we’ve already heard a lot about and when it comes to design, a lot of folks are going to be disappointed.
First of all, we’ll start with the fun stuff. According to the leaker, the Galaxy S5 sports an IP67 rating which makes the device pretty much waterproof a la the Galaxy S4 Active. There’s a cover over the microUSB port that supports this claim (which you can see in the gallery below). Moving on, and the camera is said to be a 16-megapixel shooter, whether or not it’s of the ISOCELL kind we’re unsure, but that should be cleared up later tonight. For a while now, we’ve been hearing that Samsung is to make some changes on the software side of things and in these leaked images, we can certainly see that that’s true. The camera UI and a leaked shot of an S Health app all look a lot cleaner and TouchWiz seems to be have modernized and flattened down quite a bit. Shown off too, is the new Download Booster, which uses an LTE network and WiFi network at the same time for incredible download speeds.
As for the hardware design, the Galaxy S5 is snapped alongside a Galaxy S4, and things look pretty similar. There are some visible design changes, like the dotted pattern that seems to be the Galaxy S5’s calling card and some changes around the back of the device. However, most people wouldn’t notice if you had the Galaxy S III, the S4 or the S5 from looking at this device. Depending on your outlook, that’s not a bad thing and if the strategy works for Samsung, then why ruin it? According to the leaker, the home button hides a fingerprint scanner, but we’re not shown that in any of the photos and as such can’t say for sure whether or not this is the case. However, there is a screenshot from the software that seems to collaborate that claim. No matter what though, we only have the rest of the day to wait and see just what Samsung has in store for us, and we hope that we have at least some surprises in store for us. There’s a possibility that these are fake cases that Samsung use to cover up their phones in the wild, so have your salt at ready.
