Google Glass is capable of a decent number of things so far, but there is still plenty of room for official app support and Glass Explorers know this. That hasn’t stopped the overachieving development community from creating app after app for the heads up display like device, which brings us to a new third party app created for use with Glass that let’s users “check in” to their favorite places or anywhere where they’re currently at. If you haven’t already guessed, the app is a third party Foursquare app, called Glasquare, and you can do just about all the things you’d want to do with Foursquare or a third party app like it, all without having to reach in your pocket and pull out your phone. Using the voice controlled features you can check in, snap photos of your locations and find new places to go, you can even access directions to venues you’ve searched for.
The voice controls are simple and easy to use, as all you have to do is say the magic words to activate the Google Glass voice commands. Simply start by saying “Ok Glass”, then follow that up with the command to check you in, show best venues or search for new venues. The commands for those are “check me in”, “Show best venues”, and “search venues for..”, which are pretty easy to remember and could come in handy if you’re a regular Foursquare user. Glasquare is already getting good responses from the community, with positive feedback and real world usability taking place. It could be some time before an “Official” Foursquare app comes to Glass, and that time could be after it’s available outside of the Explorer program to the public. If you’re currently a Glass Explorer and you want to get your hands on the Glasquare app, you can head on over to github to grab all the necessary files and instructions for loading this on your Google Glass. The app’s developer David V¡vra, certainly deserves all the credit he gets, and hopefully in time we can see the app more widely used, and even with some new features.
