YouTube. That wonderful place where videos are watched. There are many things that are shown on YouTube, like helpful how-to videos, official music videos from Vevo, countless comedies, and full movies. The list goes on. It is a rather impressive website. Google bought YouTube back in late 2006 and it has since grown to be the ultimate media powerhouse and the go-to for nearly everyone who wants to see something fresh and new or something old and vintage. If you can’t already tell, I love YouTube.
If you have been using YouTube for any amount of time, then you know that it has had a few changes in the UI over time. Let’s face it, YouTube used to be kind of shabby back in the day, but as time went on the site began to look cleaner and cleaner until we have the YouTube of today. Ever since the introduction of the Google Now cards, Google has been trying to make sure that things are consistent across each one of its sites. The desktop version of YouTube has the Google Now card refresh look in its UI, but the mobile version does not.
It would appear that Google has taken notice to this difference is and looking to address it in the future. The plan is that the video and information about the video will all be on one card, below that will be the related videos on another card and then after that more cards with more information. It is a delightful plan and I like to see Google cause it to take shape soon for those YouTubers who are not on iOS or Android. At the present time, those two OS’s are the only ones that have dedicated YouTube applications. Otherwise, you’re out of luck and you have to use the mobile website. I’m pretty sure that has a lot of people feeling left out. Hopefully they make the change quickly so that everyone can enjoy the same look and feel of the website. So, what do you think about the proposed and possible changes to the YouTube UI? Would you like to see the change? Do you not like it and wish that Google would avoid using it?
