Google Play Suspends Themer due to Apple's Copyright Concern

One of our favorite themeing apps, Themer has been pulled from the Play Store. According to MyColorScreen, it appears to be about concern over an Apple copyright. On February 2nd, the app was removed from the Play Store over a copyright regarding their “Seven” theme. Apple was claiming that several icons in the “Seven” theme infringed upon their copyrights, so the theme was taken down immediately from Themer after being pulled from Google Play. The Seven theme was meant to recreate iOS 7 on your Android phone or tablet.

Themer has already pulled the theme from the app, and there was hope that the app would be returned to Google Play within a few days time. But as you have probably guessed, that hasn’t happened just yet. Which isn’t a surprise as Google is notoriously bad about getting back with developers after removing their apps from the Play Store, and sometimes they don’t even tell them why it was removed. Right now MyColorScreen has no idea if their app will ever show back up on the Play Store, but they have gotten in contact with just about everyone that could speed up the process and have had no luck so far. Hopefully, Themer is just in a queue and will be restored on Google Play shortly, but we can’t count on that.

On the bright side, this hasn’t stopped work  on Themer. As they are approaching version 1.0, which should be close to being done. According to Droid Life, MyColorScreen told them to expect more in a few hours, so hopefully we’ll learn more very soon. As this was a very popular app, and it’s sad to see it suspended from Google Play. Hopefully someone out there that works for Google Play can get this sped up so we can all enjoy Themer on our smartphones once again.
