The GSMA are the ones that put together Mobile World Congress each year, much like the CEA puts together CES each year. They’ve just put out a press release with their 2014 Global Mobile Awards for various categories. Now we’re only going to cover a few, but HTC and LG picked up a couple of awards.
For the Best Mobile-Enabled Consumer Electronics device, AT&T and Filip Technologies won for the FiLIP which is a wearables for kids. The Best Consumer Mobile Service award also went to AT&T for AT&T Digital Life. For the best smartphone – now many of you may not agree – HTC won for the One. Which we’ve been ranting and raving about for nearly a year now, and we aren’t alone. Nokia also took home a couple of awards, which include the Best Low-Cost smartphone (Sub-$150), and Best Entry-Level or Featurephone.
Now for the big award. The Most Innovative Device Manufacturer of the year. I’ll give you a hint, it’s not Samsung. In fact it was LG. Which is kind of surprising as their innovation was criticized heavily. As most of you know, LG put the power and volume rocker on the back of their devices starting with the G2 last fall. Which was innovative (and I love it). But they’ve also done plenty of other things like the crazy small bezels, and the LG G Flex, and many other things. LG is definitely the company to watch these days.
You can check out the full award list in the source link down below. But there are plenty of awards to go around this year. Heck, even Qualcomm’s CEO got an award. Needless to say, Samsung didn’t pick up a single award, which is kind of surprising. But then again, Samsung is showing themselves to be for the “average” consumer market, and not us hardcore Android users. Which is fine, that’s probably a larger market anyways.
