HTC’s AMA on Reddit is still going strong for the next 20 minutes or so. I hopped into the AMA myself and straight up asked HTC if they had plans to make their flagships in 2014 customizable a la Moto X and MotoMaker. And while HTC didn’t come straight out and confirm that they are, they did hint at the fact that it may happen. “We can’t talk about our future releases, but we just released a custom case maker that allows users to help customize their HTC One. Obviously not exactly what you’re after, but you get the idea.” According to HTC. You may remember the double dip case was announced a few days ago, which we covered here, and it allows you to go ahead and choose different colors for different parts of the case, as shown above. Which is cool and all, but what about choosing the colors on your next HTC phone? Perhaps a wood-backed one? Or something else? That would be pretty amazing, and Motorola has proved that it can work, even though it can’t be done over night.
I also asked HTC when their comeback was going to happen, as I’d love to see another OEM come in and compete with Samsung, more fairly. As Samsung has such a huge market share right now, I really want someone to take some of that away from them. Not because I dislike Samsung, but because I want competition. We’re seeing what’s going on with Motorola now and how they are pretty much dead in the water, unless Lenovo can do something to help them out when that deal closes later this year, but it’s not looking pretty.
The AMA over on Reddit is still going strong, and you can join in as well and see what else they have to say. There’s quite a bit of interesting stuff, and obviously we aren’t going to cover everything that HTC posts in the AMA, just the good stuff. If you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask.
